Book Reivew: Saint of the Day

In my opinion, no Catholic home should be without the book, Saint of the Day: Lives, Lessons & Feasts. Unlike so many other Saint books, Saint of the Day contains both well-known Saints such as St Patrick, as well as those we are less familiar with, St Pancras for example. There is about a page devoted to each Saint. That page contains factual information about the Saint's life, a comment by the editor on this Saint, as well as a quote from or about the Saint.

There is not technically a Saint listed for every date of the year, but on average at least half the month is covered. The table of contents is organized into months and days. The index contains the names of the Saints in alphabetical order, as well as the date.

I appreciate the simplicity of the text. The information is not muddled with unnecessary facts or illustrations. The sections are concise enough that it would be easy for any family to add a reading from this book into their daily devotions.

This review was written as part of the Catholic book Reviewer program from The Catholic Company. Visit The Catholic Company to find more information on Saint of the Day (Revised 6th Edition). In exchange for a free copy of this book, I agreed to submit a review on my blog. I have received no other compensation for submitting this review.

A Boy and His Tree

Mike's mom plants a tree for each of the kids when they are born. Here is James and his tree throughout the years.

Hello 1970's

Thanksgiving Day.

Georgia and The Farm, Part 1

Here are some views of our trip down to Georgia. After a very fun two weeks, we are enjoying the simple routine of being at home and school lessons. The tree house is still a big hit.

Even the mowed fields are hard to navigate when you're little.

We Are In Middle Georgia

Oh the joy of being in the South again! After a very long drive from the North, we have settled in once again at Beaver Run Farm. Internet is spotty and unpredictable, the way it should be on a 600 acre farm in the middle of nowhere! Until I can figure out how to get my computer connected, I am sorry to say that photos will be few and far between.

Ahhhh, the sweet smell of awesome

Isaac came home from Step-Up a few weeks ago with scratch and sniff stickers. This was the first exposure to those type of stickers for the kids. For the past few weeks there has been many discussions about those stickers. Most of the discussions have been centered around what type of sticker should be made and what it should smell like. It was decided that Star Wars scratch and stiff stickers were an absolute neccessity.
"They should make a Tatooine sticker and it should smell like a desert."
"They could make a Luke Skywalker sticker and it could smell like that marker you rub on your arms." (deodorant)
"If they made a Millenium Falcon sticker it would smell... awesome."

Costumes Galore!

So after spending a ridiculous amount of time in the doctor's office, and seeing the doctor for all of ten minutes, I decided we needed donuts to reward ourselves for surviving the experience. Since I needed other things as well, we headed over to Walmart. When we got there, we saw that the costumes were 90% off. 90%!!! As in, these are basically free. Since the average price of said costumes was now lowered to $1.20, our dress-up bin received a massive makeover!

Not impressed with ninja's and GIJoes, Market decided to raid her own drawer and create her own costume. Here she is in a sparkly hat, a swimsuit around her neck, and she is asking for help with some black leggings.

After her drawer got boring she raided the drawer of a brother. Or maybe it was the clothes hamper. In any case, Henry had a BIG problem with it. "Batman underwear is not for Margarets!"
